The Regional External Affairs Lead (SGZ MSOI) will be part of the JPAC External Affairs Leaders team and will foster market access, public affairs and communications expertise for SGZ MSOI franchise within the region. He/she will ensure alignment and integration of global and country MA, PA & Communication strategy and will facilitate the tailoring and execution of global strategies at country and sub-national level. He/she will drive and coordinate above-country access, public affairs and communications activities, including the mobilization of all relevant functions for product-based, access-related and market-based challenges/ opportunities.

The Regional External Affairs SGZ MSOI lead will report to the JPAC External Affairs Head

The primary responsibilities of the role are:

  • To serve as the JPAC External Affairs voice to the SGZ MSOI franchise, the SGZ Regional Business and External Affairs teams
  • Accountable for supporting and coordinating the affiliate market access, public affairs and communications strategies and activities on SGZ MSOI brands
  • Ensure Regional access needs are well-represented, anticipated and addressed
  • Act as primary point of contact to the affiliate teams for access-related matters that require above-country support and coordination with GMAx and/ or transversal teams
  • Work closely with affiliate teams to ensure plans are in place with relevant external stakeholders to enhance relationships and ensure access at all levels across the political, advocacy and NGO spectrums

Key Accountability Detailed

Ensure affiliate teams’ integrated External Affairs strategy and plans are in place and have alignment to the Global Brand strategy:

  • Understand local payers’ decision-making processes and how they impact SGZ MSOI brands’ access to funding;
  • Review / challenge local plans, taking into consideration global market access strategy public affair plans, communication plans and global payer’s value proposition and prepare final validation with SGZ Regional Head
  • Integrate local market access strategies into launch preparedness plans (and use it to inform internal decision-making.
  • Coordinate specific market access, public affairs and communications projects as required

Lead the implementation of SGZ MSOI Global Brand and V&A Teamlocal activities relevant to market access and public affairs:

  • Lead the localization of SGZ MSOI brands’ payer value propositions considering local decision-making processes and drivers;
  • Lead the integration of key health economic arguments, generated by HEOR team, to sustain SGZ MSOI brands value & positioning.
  • Bring Market Access expertise to local Pricing negotiation
  • Identify alternative innovative payer opportunities where relevant, and bring market access expertise, to adapt Value messages 
  • Ensure the involvement of the country key functions and expertise in access-related topics

Ensure the regional coordination with Global SGZ MSOI HEOR on the communications of health economic results that impact decisions for SGZ’ recommendation & funding:

  • Ensure the integration of HE messages and results within the local / regional market access strategies and payer communication tools ;
  • Contribute to design and implement Value Proposition Events for external customers at regional and country levels
  • Support the health economic messages within franchise’s communication strategy and aligned with global publication plan;
  • Support local teams with educational HE activities when meeting with critical experts or decision- and policy-makers

Ensure required collaboration with the SGZ MSOI Global Market Access, Public Affairs and Communication Teamsto achieve strategic alignment and consistency:

  • Foster development and capabilities building across country MAx/PA/Comms teams, and other relevant country functions,  in collaboration with EA Head
  • Monitor and communicate changes in country market access pathways/regulations, to feed payer value propositions and share information on environment-related matters
  • Share best practices, experiences and expertise in Value proposition, payers messages, Access strategies, public affairs plans, communication plans and potential access solutions (inc. modelling and health economics);

Major challenges

  • Build market access, public affairs and Communications capabilities across key markets; integrate into launch preparedness plan, anticipating time needed to generate and communicate the evidence.
  • Lead multiple internal stakeholder alignment for key decisions:  Interact with and influence key functions (R&D, Public Affairs, Comms, GMAx & Franchises) for critical decision making, related to speciality & rare disease Tx funding and reimbursement.
  • The job entails continuous collaboration and interaction to global, regional and country internal and external stakeholders. The job holder needs to be capable of adaptation according to the level of countries’ maturity in terms of health economics, both internally and externally.

  • Minimum 5 years Market Access (Market Access, HEVA, Pricing) or Public Affairs experience
  • International or regional experience would be ideal and/or Japan market experience
  • Previous experience in Commercial/Medical/Business role would be beneficial and/or Business/Marketing post graduate degree

Job Specific Competencies

  • Strong understanding of payer environment & trends likely to impact the Sanofi business
  • Strong track record in market access and/or public affairs including ideally both country & global/regional roles
  • Demonstrated ability to lead in a transversal matrix environment and cross-cultural teams as a network.
  • Excellent teamwork/interpersonal and influencing / communication skills
  • Adept in anticipating business and internal customers’ needs
  • Aptitude to coach and be coached
  • Comprehension and awareness of MAx and PA best practices
  • Strong leadership track record focused on solutions/accountability
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English; written and oral communication skills in Japanese would be a plus;
  • Proven ability to translate technical data into Payers messages;
  • Creative and innovative thinking;
  • Strong project management skills
  • Solid understanding of global reimbursement and payer systems;
