What you can contribute?

A) Main Responsibilities

The primary objective of this role is to establish and execute a robust public affairs & market access strategy aimed to grow Sanofi CHC business in China.

Key responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Identify key policy priorities and levers to support CHC business in China. Develop policy agenda in alignment with business goals.
  • Provide a robust analysis of the self care policy and operating environment in China and clearly inform the PAMA Country Head and relevant CHC business leaders/partners (i.e., Commercial, Global CHC Public Affairs, Regulatory Affairs) to ensure seamless understanding and alignment on issues and topics
  • Anticipate public affairs & market access trends and competitive dynamics (i.e., NRDL, self care, e-commerce, pharmacy channel, etc.) that represent opportunities or threats to the business.
  • Monitor external developments and effectively communicate potential threats or opportunities to the PAMA Country Head and CHC business leaders/partners
  • Lead in proposing CHC positions on key issues affecting the CHC business and industry in China – in alignment with the PAMA Country Head and the CHC Head of Global Public Affairs – and develop position papers/statements to advocate with policy makers and other key external audiences, ensuring internal sign-off.
  • Strengthen engagement with key external stakeholders, and foster new ones, given the evolving policy environment around Self Care.
  • Lead and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams ensuring that business risk is mitigated and opportunities are swiftly identified and successfully executed.
  • Develop scenarios and risk mitigation plans, which reflect a thorough understanding of the policy, government decision-making processes, decision-makers, and influencers, and provide recommendations and solutions to the CHC business
  • Gain a clear understanding of Sanofi’s Consumer Healthcare strategy for growth and contribute to the formulation of such strategies.
  • Remain current and alert on relevant industry changes (activities likely to include monitoring trade journals and press releases, networking with investment banks, venture capital firms and companies, and attending conferences to learn about and monitor new business development opportunities).

B) Key Relationships

  • The position holder will be a key member of the leadership team of Sanofi China Public Affairs & Market Access function.
  • Strong interactions with key function in the China and International CHC organization, including e.g. digital, marketing, regulatory, finance, medicine; as well as the Head of Global Public Affairs CHC
  • A wide-ranging network of external stakeholders to manage in the China healthcare ecosystem, including establishing a strong presence in our trade association, CNMA, to drive the Sanofi CHC agenda

C) Ideal Experience & Skills

  • Strong experience in navigating the China healthcare ecosystem vis-à-vis public affairs and market access objectives, with specific knowledge in the field of Consumer Health Care a plus
  • Strong existing network within China’s healthcare ecosystems, having past experience dealing with government ministries that have oversight on health policy, public health, reimbursement, finance, among others.
  • Having an entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to understand consumer needs and business transformations to create new business opportunities to build CHC’s business in China
  • Experienced in leading and motivating cross-functional teams without direct reporting line
  • Results-oriented with strong cross-functional collaboration mindset
  • Demonstrated ability to build deep, authentic relationships and strong influence with senior internal and external stakeholders is required
  • Track record contributing to influencing the decision-making of senior leaders – internally and externally, demonstrating expert judgment and is sought after as an expert
  • Public affairs acumen, including ability to conceive programs that join diverse stakeholders to deliver on a common public interest
  • Experience working in highly regulated environment and a demonstrated understanding of the both national, provincial/regional health authorities
  • Experience working in a matrix environment and driving results through influence
  • Experience managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced and matrix environment
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguous situations
  • Superior organizational, analytical, strategic thinking and decision-making skills
  • Strong understanding of the consumer healthcare environment from a scientific and business perspective
  • Ability to motivate and communicate with people exhibiting different working styles and personal attitudes.
  • Broad cross functional understanding & general knowledge of the pharmaceutical business is preferred
  • Strong social and intercultural skills, position holder acknowledge diversity and creates the room to motivate people to creativity & out of the box thinking ability to work under pressure, to work along agreed upon timelines and to achieve respective milestones

D) Required qualifications

  • A high caliber professional with a long and comprehensive working experience in the public affairs and market access space in China (at least 12-15 years); experience in other markets a plus
  • Outstanding academic background, advance degree at plus (MA, MBA, MSc)
  • Proven track record of successful public affairs, market access, innovative reputation-building, and stakeholder engagement is required
  • Demonstrated ability to build deep, authentic relationships and strong influence with senior internal and external stakeholders is required
  • Knowledge of key social equity issues, norms, and trends within consumer healthcare, knowledge of other life sciences sectors is a plus
  • Proven project management skills are required
  • Experience working in a highly-regulated industry (pharmaceutical, oil & gas, financial, etc.), but experience in consumer healthcare is preferred
  • Extensive experience in crisis/issues management is required
  • Outstanding strategic thinking and analytical ability is required
  • Experience working in a matrixed environment and driving results through influence is required
  • Exercise a high level of independent judgment even in challenging, complex situations is required
  • Fluent written and spoken Mandarin and English, matched with excellent communication and negotiation skills. Additional languages are an asset.
