Head of Exploratory Research, Type 2 Immunology

Immunology and Inflammation Therapeutic Area

We have an exciting opportunity to join Sanofi at our new Cambridge Crossing research campus as a distinguished scientific leader and innovator in the development of novel therapeutics for type 2 inflammatory diseases.  Sanofi is a leader in type 2 immunology with a robust pipeline of approved and potential new medicines for chronic dermatological, respiratory, and gastrointestinal diseases.  We have an unrelenting commitment to scientific exploration to expand our understanding of these diseases and discover targets for new therapeutics for the benefit of patients.

The candidate will play a leadership role in establishing and executing the scientific strategy to develop novel treatments for type 2 diseases.  The ideal candidate will be a recognized as an outstanding scientific leader in the field of type 2 immunology and possess an outstanding track record of high impact scientific publications, presentations, and active participation in conferences and professional societies.  The position will report directly into the Head of the Type 2 Immunology cluster and will be an integral member of the cluster's leadership team contributing cross-functionally to our research portfolio in the Immunology and Inflammation Therapeutic Area at Sanofi.

Job Responsibilities

  • Direct and execute our research strategy in the development of novel therapeutics for type 2 diseases, including application of precision immunology and leveraging of new technologies and drug modalities

  • Build and maintain effective collaborative relationships with our internal and external partners to ensure our research activities are aligned with disease area strategies in type 2 immunology, including clinical development, commercial and business development

  • Lead a team of researchers and apply scientific expertise and judgement to direct studies in support of research project and company drug discovery goals

  • Work collaboratively with multifunctional teams in a matrix organization across Sanofi to leverage and prioritize resources

  • Works across the R&D organization to test and advance innovative processes, hypotheses, and methodologies; encourage curiosity and challenge the status quo to foster innovation

  • Develop and manage relationships and research agreements with external academic collaborators

  • Support business development activities

  • Communicate research and strategy through peer-reviewed publications and presentations to internal and external audiences

  • Maintain a thorough and up to date knowledge of scientific and medical developments in the field and incorporate into in-house strategies as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Possesses leading-edge scientific understanding and working knowledge in the field of type 2 immunology, including peer-reviewed publications and presentation history in notable scientific journals and forums

  • Demonstrates continuous growth in depth and breadth of personal scientific knowledge and understanding of strategic goals of group, team, and company

  • Strong managerial and mentorship skills and experience

  • Possesses strong communication and presentation skills and an exceptional work ethic.

  • Acts independently to achieve pre-determined goals and objectives

  • Able to identify multidisciplinary solutions to problems, make complex decisions and recommend a course of action to senior level management

  • Highly motivated, independent, collaborative, and able to communicate effectively with a cross-functional team

  • Exercises foresight and judgement in planning, organizing, and guiding complex projects

  • Fosters a culture of employee growth and development

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience or working knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry and drug development.

  • Experience with translational medicine, including precision immunology

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree plus minimum 18 years of relevant research experience in an academic or biopharmaceutical setting OR Master’s Degree plus minimum 18 years of relevant research experience in an academic or biopharmaceutical setting OR PhD plus minimum 12 years of relevant research experience in an academic or biopharmaceutical setting
